The Woodroffe School, Lyme Regis, Dorset, Great Britain

Our school boasts unique partnership with several secondary schools abroad. Besides a long-year tradition in a friendship with Uherský Brod in the Czech republic and Annecy in France, we were trying to gain a new foreign partner in Great Britain too. These efforts came true in the first recognitory meetings with Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis, Dorset in 1996.

Lyme Regis is a small, picturesque town situated at the shore with its 15 000 inhabitants. The wonderful environment and an immediate nearness of the sea are also the reasons why the beaches of this holiday resort are used by either domestic or foreign tourists. The tourism and fishery are the main sources of town incomes. Lyme Regis’s surroundings are famous for its fossil fields (one of the richest all over the world).

The school attended by students aged from 12 to 18 belongs to the mixed comprehensive one and all the students can continue in higher education studies after passing the final exams. These subjects are taught at the school: English, mathematics, science (physics, chemistry, biology), modern languages (French, German),  history, geography, design and technology, art and design, music, physical education, religious education, computer science.

According to the exchange programme the English students were in Trenčín 4-times and our students were in Lyme Regis 3-times. The exchange residences are supposed to be organized reciprocally. The students are placed into the counterpart’s families. The visit of the school, the involvement in lessons and the gabfest are the parts of the programme. Within the scope of the cognitive branch also some sightseeing trips to the close areas or to other towns are always prepared e.g. Bath, London, Stonehenge, Exeter, Torquay, Plymouth, Stratford and other interesting places.
